Spend the day exploring the natural world through magnification.
Join us for a day of incredible discovery! This hands on class is designed for ages 10+ who have a passionate interest in science.
We will study micro and macro organisms in their natural environment, record data, draw conclusions and more. Time will be spent closely examining our natural surroundings with magnifying glass, hand lens and microscope.
- After a warm-up activity we will dive right in by sampling stream water for macroinvertebrates, and we will use this information to help determine water quality and other ecological implications.
- We will break for lunch and get back in the groove with a team building, nature awareness activity
- In the afternoon we will assemble in the barn to learn the basics of microscopy and attempt to identify microorganisms from samples taken on the land.

We embrace a child led philosophy and kids will get to explore areas of interest to them while having time for free play and group activities. Expect participants to get dirty. This class will involve time exploring natural environments, including water. Bring plenty of drinking water and adequate lunch/snacks. Parents are welcome to stay, and drop-off is possible but must be pre-arranged before the day of the class. Register now as class space is limited!
